Sands Australia has a long and rich history of providing support to bereaved families for more than 40 years.

Sands exists to ensure that no bereaved parent feels isolated and alone. We provide an understanding ear, and the support needed to move through the journey of grief and find life beyond pregnancy and infant loss.  We work to reduce the stigma associated with pregnancy and infant loss and we advocate for bereaved parents to ensure that they receive the support they need.

Originating in WA, in conjunction with King Edward Hospital,  our grass roots peer support model of bereavement care has developed and expanded over time.

Sands undertook a significant organisational restructure in August 2018, to form our new unified national organisation Sands Australia. This new structure is providing economies of scale, new opportunities for funding, profile raising and greater opportunity for advocacy on behalf of bereaved parents.

In November 2020, Sands merged operations with Red Nose Australia. As a merged organisation, we are Australia’s leading organisation working both to prevent babies and young children dying suddenly and unexpectedly, and support services for families following the tragic death of their baby or child during pregnancy, infancy and early childhood.
