The Federal Government recently announced limits on public gatherings to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus. These restrictions apply to funerals and unfortunately may affect the way bereaved parents plan and conduct a ceremony for their baby who has died.

The Government have stated that funerals must now be limited to no more than 10 people and that social distancing rules will also apply. It has also advised, however, that states and territories can provide exemptions in relation to attendance at funerals in cases of hardship. Funeral directors will be able to advise you further on how to access these exemptions if they apply.

We know that for some families adhering to these requirements may exacerbate their grief. We want to remind you that Sands is here to provide advice and support to families who are impacted by these arrangements.

We have put together a factsheet to help parents plan a funeral in the time of COVID-19.
